• All Music Guide This is "a complete online database of recorded music." It has a search engine that allows searching by artist name, album title, song title, label, and musical style. Biographies, full discographies, and album reviews are available for artists. Essays and a glossary are provided as is a unique feature: music maps, which trace a particular style's development from other musicical styles.

 

• The Classical Net Homepage is a great place to find biographical facts, as well as works lists for composers. Index of composers and works. Basic repertoire of recordings, reviews, articles and links to other classical music sites.

 

• DW3 Classical Music Resources  "DW3 (Duke World Wide Web) Classical Music Resources is a comprehensive collection of classical music resources on the Web with links to more than 1,600 non-commercial pages/sites in over a dozen languages. The site is comprised of 107 well organized, subject-specific pages and features a powerful, easy-to-use internal search engine; multiple access points for hundreds of entries, including "see" and "see also" references; and composer-specific pages and links organized by historical period for enhanced browsing."

 

• The Mozart Project  "Contains a biography of Mozart (with chronology and family tree), a listing of his compositions (by date and category), selected essays about him and his music, plus reviews of books on Mozart. Also includes links to more Mozart resources online."

 

• MUSICWEB INTERNATIONAL "is the premier classical CD review site on the internet. With a team of 70 reviewers we produce up to 300 classical CD reviews each month. Well over 20,000 reviews and articles are now available on-line. "

 

• Operabase - Reviews and guides to performances, guide to composers and works, and links to other opera resources.

 

• Sibelius Academy / Finland Sibelius Academy Métasite finlandais, qui propose lui-même une sélection de répertoires de ressources Internet, et réunit sous 18 rubriques les sites consacrés à la composition et aux compositeurs, aux instruments, à divers genres de musique (musique sacrée, musique ancienne, folk, world music, jazz et blues, opéra, rock et pop, musique électronique et électro-acoustique). Il propose aussi un recensement de sites d'orchestres classiques, de périodiques musicaux, de bibliothèques, archives, écoles et centres de recherche musicaux, ainsi qu'une liste de ressources intéressant la recherche et la théorie musicale.

 

• Worldwide Internet Music Resources From the William and Gayle Cook Music Library, Indiana University. Un répertoire général de liens sur la musique, qui rassemble sous de grandes rubriques thématiques les sites consacrés à des musiciens, des groupes ou des ensembles, les autres sites liés à l'exécution ou à l'interprétation, et les sites sur des compositeurs et sur la composition. A disposition également, une liste de sites classés par genres et types de musique, une rubrique sur le monde commercial de la musique, et un vaste recensement de périodiques. A noter, sous 'Research and study', un répertoire des bibliothèques musicales américaines ayant un site web.

• The African Music Encyclopedia : A searchable encyclopedia dedicated to African music performed by musicians in Africa and in countries around the world. There are country and artist indexes, along with a glossary of musical styles and terms. 

 

• The Living Composers Project :  "The Living Composers Project is a non-profit database begun in 2000, which aims to provide composers, listeners, performers, and researchers with a source of information about the music of our time."

 

• Mondomix : Mondomix - un site dynamique et bien documenté sur toutes les musiques du monde. Sa mise à jour est fréquente et on y trouve des biographies et discographies, des entretiens avec les artistes, un magazine aux sujets variés et les actualités des musiques du monde (concerts, festivals etc.).

JAZZ

 

 

• All About Jazz This comprehensive site includes jazz news, reviews, festivals, interviews, audio downloads, photos, and biographies of over 3600 jazz musicians./Un site en anglais sur tous les aspects du jazz. On y trouve des chroniques de livres et de disques sur le sujet, des interviews de musiciens, des articles et de nombreuses (mais courtes) biographies, discographies et des photos. Le ton est sérieux sans être trop académique et les liens abondants et bien organisés.
• JAZZ  : A Film by Ken Burns : " The online counterpart to Ken Burns' documentary Jazz includes extensive biographical profiles and discographies of major jazz musicians, a chronology of the development of jazz, essays about jazz and its place in American culture, and audio clips of jazz compositions."
