Welcome to the Penturn Library's Virtual Site!
"The library is the heart of a school, with its storehouse of knowledge, it liberates, informs, teaches and enthralls. A library provides a cultural centre where students and teachers alike come to enlarge and clarify knowledge, to read and reflect."
"Teacher-librarians play three critical roles in the learning community: teacher, information specialist and administrator. In each of these roles they empower students and teachers to meet higher standards." - Ken Haycock
The Kathleen Crook and Jim Penturn Library Information Centre is named after the Toronto French School graduate and benefactor who generously supported the Library and built the new library wing.
The Library brings together the senior school collection with the middle school collection; it also houses an ever changing student art gallery. The present building incorporates the fine oak study of Clifford Sifton with its imposing marble fireplace and the new wing designed by Moriyama Tashima.
The Library contains 4,100square feet of space distributed over several reading areas and is designed to meet the student, staff and collection needs of the curriculum.
The main entrance to the Library is off the main corricor of Sifton House in Giles Hall. Directly on your right as you enter the Library is the Reference Room/Salle de Reference.
